Pinboard has kept bookmarks safe since 2009 with a text-only interface, tags, and a one-person company behind it. People who love it really love it. People who leave usually leave for the same two reasons.
Stay on Pinboard if you live in tags and want the archive of every page you ever saved. Try ceevo if you want previews and titles pulled in automatically, folders instead of tags, a page you can share, and no yearly fee.
The first reason is the interface. Pinboard is deliberately plain, which is fine until you have three thousand bookmarks that all look like the same line of grey text. The second is tags: they are powerful, and they need discipline that most of us do not have at 11pm on a phone.
Every saved link gets its title, a description, and a preview image automatically. Folders replace tags, and there is only one level of them, so the choice at save time is short: which of your ten folders does this belong in.
A folder can be public in one switch. Pinboard has public bookmarks too, but a ceevo folder page is designed to be sent to someone, not just to exist.
The archive. If you pay for the archival tier, Pinboard keeps a copy of every page you save, and years later it is still there when the original is gone. ceevo does not do that. If link rot is your main worry, Pinboard is the right tool.
